Understanding Our Inventory & Availability
At Shirley’s Wig Shoppe, most of our products ship directly from the manufacturer. This allows us to offer a wide selection of styles, colors, and brands without limiting availability to what we physically have on hand. Because of this, inventory works a little differently than traditional retail.
How Inventory Works
We receive inventory updates from each manufacturer once per business day (Monday through Friday). While we do our best to keep our website as up to date as possible, inventory can change quickly and is not always reflected in real time. For higher-demand styles and colors, we manually update listings as often as possible. However, not all items can be updated instantly.
Availability at the Time of Order
An item showing as available to order does not always guarantee it is currently in stock at the manufacturer at the exact moment your order is placed. In some cases, an item may become unavailable shortly after an order is submitted.
Why Availability May Differ Between Retailers
Some authorized retailers maintain their own inventory, while others, like us, primarily ship directly from the manufacturer. This model allows us to offer a wider selection of styles and colors without limiting availability to what is physically in stock. However, it also means we rely on the manufacturer’s inventory at the time your order is placed. Because of this, an item may appear available to order but could be on backorder if the manufacturer’s inventory has recently changed.
Backorders & ETAs
If an item is out of stock, it will be placed on backorder and shipped once the manufacturer receives more inventory. When available, we will provide an estimated arrival date (ETA). Please note: ETAs are provided by the manufacturer and can change at any time.
Backorder Notifications
If your item is placed on backorder, you will receive an email notification with the estimated arrival date (ETA), when available. Please note that ETAs are provided by the manufacturer and may change. We will do our best to provide updates if there are any significant changes to your order.
Why Items Sell Out Quickly
All authorized retailers pull from the same manufacturer inventory, and some also sell from their own stock. Popular styles, new releases, and limited colors can sell out quickly across multiple retailers at the same time. Backorders are filled in the order they are received, so placing an order early helps secure your place in line.
Shipping Timeframes
Shipping times vary by brand and availability. In general:
- In-stock items: typically ship within 2–14 business days
- Backordered items: ship once restocked by the manufacturer
You will receive a shipping confirmation email with tracking once your order has shipped. In some cases, tracking may initially show movement to our location or appear inactive while the manufacturer prepares the shipment. This does not mean your order is not in progress.
Items That Ship Directly From Us
While most items ship from the manufacturer, the following products ship directly from Shirley’s Wig Shoppe:
- Open Box wigs
- Snoozies
- Clothing, shoes and accessories
- Jacqueline Kent products
These items are shipped from our location and typically ship the next business day.
Ellen Wille Wigs & Toppers
Some Ellen Wille products may ship from their warehouse in Germany. Certain styles are fulfilled directly from Germany, while others may ship from Germany if they are out of stock in the U.S. warehouse. If your order ships from Germany, additional processing and transit time may apply. Please note: Orders that ship from Germany cannot be canceled once they have been processed.

A Quick Note
We understand how important timing can be, especially for special occasions. While we do our best to provide accurate and timely updates, inventory and fulfillment are ultimately managed by the manufacturer.
